Buck [Goat] Breeds
BAIF has successfully demonstrated Artificial Insemination in goats at doorstep of farmers as like Cattle and Buffalo. The vast germplasm resource of the country consists of 34 well-defined breeds. BAIF initiated buck semen production from 2018 for improvement in goat breeds of small and marginal farmers to ensure availability of quality germplasm. Presently, goat (Buck) semen doses of different types of goat breeds like Barbari, Beetal, Berari, Black Bangal, Jamnapari, Osmanabadi, Sangamneri, Ganjam and Sirohi are being produced at Wagholi Semen Station.
Some Significant advantages of goat farming
- There is no religious sentiment for production as well as consumption of goat meat (Chevon).
- Goat rearing is not as expensive as dairy farming.
- Goat rearing can be started with one goat and then a flock can be formed at later stages.
